‘Finally, a school that revolves around the student’

In the Cool Springs area of Franklin, Galileo Preparatory Academy offers families something different from the traditional school model. Galileo is designed to be flexible, personalized, and centered on helping each student thrive in their own way.

For parents whose children struggle with anxiety, feel overwhelmed in large classrooms, or crave more challenge, Galileo provides an option built to adapt to the student rather than the other way around.

At Galileo, every child is seen as an individual. The school’s mastery-based model allows students to move forward when they’ve mastered a concept, rather than rushing through to catch up or holding back to wait for others. If a learner needs extra time in one subject but is flying ahead in another, the program adjusts. This prevents the frustration of being labeled “behind” or “ahead” and shifts the focus to true understanding. Learning isn’t about checking boxes or memorizing for a test, but about building the confidence and skills to use knowledge meaningfully.

Rather than grade-level classrooms, Galileo organizes learning into mixed-age studios. The Spark Studio welcomes kindergarten and first grade learners, followed by second through fifth grades in the Elementary Studio, sixth through eighth in the Discover Studio, and ninth through twelfth in Upper School Studio.

This structure allows younger students to look up to older peers while giving older learners opportunities to lead. Without rigid grade labels in distinct classes, students can progress at their own pace without feeling out of step.

Additionally, Galileo offers the Cyzner Institute at GPA for learners who need more intensive support. This includes children with various diagnoses, including, but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder, neurodevelopmental disorders, and/or mental health needs who would benefit from being in an inclusive environment while working towards a high level of independence.

Inside Galileo Preparatory Academy, the space is open, bright, and intentionally non-institutional. Comfortable seating and flexible work areas allow learners to feel their best while they work. Students work independently on personalized online platforms for select subjects, but also join together for group instruction, outdoor activities, and enrichment like art.

High school students gain access to career and technical education (CTE) pathways, which can include industry certifications or internships. Clubs, enrichment, and events round out the experience, making sure students connect socially as well as academically.

Families interested in GPA usually begin with a tour and then schedule a Shadow Day, where a student spends time experiencing the school firsthand. This helps both the family and staff ensure the environment is a good fit.

Because the school uses rolling admissions, new students can join throughout the year instead of waiting for a fall start date. That flexibility is especially helpful for families moving to the area or looking for a mid-year change.

Galileo intentionally maintains a low student-to-teacher ratio. Guides (teachers) know each learner well and can support both academics and personal growth. Parents often describe the difference this makes, noting that their children feel seen and understood in ways they didn’t at larger schools.

The result is a school that feels less like an institution and more like a community. Families are active partners in the process, and students build strong relationships with both peers and staff.

While every family’s story is unique, a few themes come up often in why parents choose Galileo:
  • Less stress: Students who struggled with anxiety or pressure in traditional classrooms often find relief in Galileo’s calmer environment.
  • Personalized progress: Mastery-based learning ensures students advance with confidence rather than just moving through material.
  • Community: Galileo fosters meaningful connections between learners.

If you are seeking a more personalized and supportive approach, Galileo offers a compelling alternative in Franklin. With its focus on mastery, personalization, and community, Galileo Preparatory Academy is showing what education can look like when the learner is truly at the center. Sign up for a tour today!
