Saint Matthew School prepares children to think critically, lead with integrity, discover their purpose, and fulfill their calling to become a saint.
Choosing the best place for your child’s education is one of the most important decisions you will make…come and experience the Saint Matthew difference. The school’s mission is: Educating children as we pass on the traditions and teachings of the Catholic faith. Saint Matthew School is an accredited, co-educational Catholic School located in Williamson County, Tennessee, established in 2001, currently serving 485+ students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. On September 28, 2017, Saint Matthew was named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education under the High Performing School designation, the only Williamson County private school to ever receive this award. First in 2021, and for a second time in 2024, SMS was named an Apple Distinguished School , one of only 889 schools worldwide to be classified as such. SMS Students live out our motto of Seeking Knowledge + Modeling Christ + Serving Others daily. Seeking…Saint Matthew School’s vision seeks to integrate into every learning experience the religious truth and values revealed by Jesus Christ and the teaching of the Catholic Church. This integration begins in Pre-K with the instruction of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as well as His Little Way religion program. The Sophia Institute Press Spirit of Truth series for Pre-K through 5th grade, along with the Saint Mary’s Press Connect- Bringing Faith to Life program for grades 6-8, provide the basis for the Saint Matthew religion curriculum. Our second grade curriculum is supplemented with the BLESSED series by Dynamic Catholic for sacramental preparation. All programs are supplemented with a broad spectrum of resources and experiences to enliven each student’s embracing of the Catholic faith. Modeling…To put their Catholic faith and the teachings of the Church into practice, students are provided with a broad array of opportunities to model Christ in their own lives. Some of these opportunities include reciting daily prayers, observing the liturgical rituals at the student Masses twice weekly, and serving as readers, altar servers, or choir members at the student Masses. By praying the Rosary and participating in First Friday Adoration, students model commitment to a lifestyle of conscious and deliberate prayer. Second and eighth graders engage in specific preparations for the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation. Saint Matthew students participate in the Prayer Buddies Program where older students are paired with younger ones for shared faith experiences. These and other traditions at Saint Matthew School create memorable experiences for students to model Christ daily. Serving…In keeping with our belief statements, Saint Matthew School seeks to raise the awareness of students to the needs of others around them, in their communities, and throughout the world. This goal is achieved through the third portion of the motto, Serving Others. Our school-wide service opportunity at Saint Matthew School is to our sister school in Haiti, Our Lady of Miracles. Students in all grade levels conduct a variety of initiatives on behalf of Haiti throughout the school year. Beyond these efforts, the Hope for Haiti Summer Challenge engages all students in devoting one day of summer work (lemonade stands, babysitting, yard work, etc) to raise money for Our Lady of Miracles. Each year during Catholic Schools Week, the entire student body participates in Demonstration Day. Demonstration Day serves as a tangible way for students to see all of the different ways their peers have “served others” throughout the school year. Each grade works with a particular local organization or community during the year such as Room in the Inn, the Ronald McDonald House, Book ‘Em, and the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. Students learn about the needs of each specific organization and create a plan to address them. On Demonstration Day, they share their insights and actions with the wider community. It is a great opportunity for our school to show how we live out our motto of “serving others”. SMS by the Numbers 1 of 889 schools worldwide recognized as an Apple Distinguished School. 10 SMS alumni have been named Valedictorian or Salutatorian since 2015. 2475 hours are dedicated annually by SMS 8th graders for service projects/events.
