For over 52 years, Sumner Academy has put students' best interests first in every decision about our program. Our independent, non-religious, private, Pre-K to 8th grade school truly inspires a love of learning.
Our mission is to discover and cultivate each child’s unique abilities. We use innovative approaches to traditional school values and learning to create a solid foundation for your child’s development and success. With small class sizes (13:1), students receive more individualized attention and are known throughout campus, enabling teachers to uncover and foster the best in our learners. As an independent school, we use a faculty-driven curriculum. Learning takes place inside and outside of the classroom, from various learning and activity spaces on our secure 23-acre campus to exciting local and regional experiences. Students learn and apply lessons in the classroom to real life. We encourage children to feel safe taking risks, exploring new activities, and challenging themselves. SA focuses on excellence in both academics and character, creating a solid foundation for your child's development and success. Curriculums include traditional academics, Spanish, Arts (Performing and Studio art, Music), PE, Technology & Innovation (IDEA HUB for STEAM), and enrichment courses. All students have opportunities to participate in school-wide activities, competitions, clubs, teams, volunteerism, and athletics. We strive to give our students impactful learning experiences that foster a life-long love of learning and curiosity. Regular hands-on learning activities - on campus and during field studies and adventure learning - enrich and deepen students’ understanding of what they learn in the classroom. Our 23-acre campus in Gallatin, TN, houses three academic buildings, a field house, an outdoor classroom, a Monarch Butterfly Garden with NASA Moon Tree, two playgrounds, two soccer fields, and outdoor spaces for student activities. SA has a thriving community with active participation from our families, a loving, supportive network of teachers and staff, and incredible students that have dedicated themselves to their future.
