Established in 1868, St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School is a private, co-educational, Episcopal, boarding and day college preparatory school serving 200 students in grades 6-12, offering five- and seven-day boarding options. Boarding can begin in the seventh grade.
We CHALLENGE our students to fulfill their greatest potential while helping them to cultivate lives of BALANCE and JOY.

Challenge
SAS classes reflect the uniqueness of our students’ interests, emphasizing depth over breadth. With place-based and outdoor learning at the heart of our innovative academic program, students explore hands-on in our campus wetlands, forests, lakes, archaeological sites, and organic farm, as well as our Outdoor Learning Complex, featuring a brand-new climbing wall and pump track, complementing our 12 miles of trails on campus for field studies and recreation.

In addition to our own rigorous curriculum, our longstanding partnership with the University of the South allows qualified juniors and seniors to enroll in college classes alongside highly talented college students, at no extra cost to families. These courses are taught by university professors, on a university campus, and for transferable university credit - better than AP, IB, or dual enrollment! SAS students experience authentic college-level academics and expectations with the support of a small, nurturing, independent school environment. Up to 50 percent of our graduates leave with a Sewanee transcript along with their SAS diploma.

By graduation, SAS students have developed the confidence, curiosity, and resilience to embrace any challenge - academic or otherwise - and a lifelong love of learning.

Balance
We are dedicated to cultivating passionate, thoughtful, and well-rounded human beings. Self-expression flourishes through our arts program, where students create and perform in theater productions, music ensembles, clay and recording studios, gallery exhibits, and our student-run, live-streaming radio station.

SAS coaches are transformational–not transactional. With an emphasis on effort, discipline, teamwork, and integrity, students compete on 26 teams across 11 sports, including basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, mountain biking, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, climbing, and wrestling. Our campus trails and outdoor spaces encourage movement, mindfulness, and balance–on and off the field.

Grounded in our Episcopal heritage, we embrace openness, trust, forgiveness, and respect. The SAS Honor Code provides the foundation for our life together. Our diverse student body represents cultures and religions from around the world, including 12 countries and 11 states, broadening perspectives and deepening our shared sense of belonging.

 Joy
We prioritize joy - so much so that our academic schedule is designed around it. We intentionally make space for students to try new things, explore new topics, and rediscover wonder in their daily lives.

In addition to our beautiful 550-acre campus, SAS students also have access to the 13,500-acre university campus in Sewanee, including world-class facilities such as the Course at Sewanee, a superb tennis facility, and collegiate natatorium. Through our co-curricular PEAK (Performance, Exploration, Athletics, Knowledge) program, students pursue their passions - from rock climbing, adventure cycling, and trail building to darkroom photography and textile design.

At St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School, you are encouraged and empowered to become your fullest self–welcomed, seen, and supported just as you are.
